The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rain, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall as a strong weather system moves across the country.

This system will enter western Pakistan on the evening of February 24, reaching upper regions by February 25 and continuing in northern areas until March 2.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir will experience heavy snowfall and thunderstorms from February 25 to March 2, affecting areas such as Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Poonch.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Peshawar from the night of February 24 to March 1. Murree, Galliyat, and nearby areas will see moderate to heavy snowfall between February 25 and March 1.

Punjab will also experience rain and thunderstorms, with Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot among the affected cities. Southern districts, including Multan and Bahawalpur, will receive rain from February 25 to 27.

In Balochistan, cities like Quetta, Ziarat, and Chaman will have snowfall between February 24 and 26. Meanwhile, Larkana and Sukkur in Sindh may see light rain on February 25-26.

The PMD has warned that heavy snowfall may cause travel disruptions in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, and parts of KP and Gilgit-Baltistan. There is also a risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas of KP and Kashmir from February 25 to March 1, along with potential landslides in mountainous regions.

Authorities have been urged to stay on high alert, and tourists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel. The rain is expected to benefit standing crops, especially in rain-fed areas of Punjab and KP.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) have been directed to take necessary safety precautions to prevent any emergencies.
