Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Urges Swift Implementation of Pak-China Agreements

During a high-level review meeting at the Prime Minister House, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgent need for the expeditious implementation of agreements and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) signed with the Chinese government and companies. He conveyed that any delays in the implementation of these crucial agreements would not be tolerated.

Acknowledging China as a reliable and longstanding ally of Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the invaluable support provided by the Chinese government in times of need. He underlined the importance of strengthening the Pak-China cooperation for mutual benefit.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with several federal ministers and officials, where the progress and future prospects of Pak-China cooperation were thoroughly discussed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the determination of Chinese leadership to further increase their investment in Pakistan, particularly stressing the positive impact of transferring Chinese industries to Pakistan. He emphasized that this move would significantly contribute to the enhancement of Pakistan’s overall economy, boost exports, and generate new employment opportunities.

Significant progress in various projects under the Pak-China cooperation was reported during the meeting. The timely completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway through Public-Private Partnership, along with the plan to send 1,000 students for modern agricultural vocational training in China at the government’s expense, were highlighted.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the transition of power plants running on imported coal to local coal, signaling progress in the energy sector. Additionally, efforts to showcase business and investment opportunities in Pakistan through a road show in Beijing were outlined, showcasing the substantial potential for the transfer of Chinese industries to Pakistan.

The meeting also mentioned 78 Pakistani companies expressing keen interest in collaborating for the transfer of Chinese industries to Pakistan, with the Board of Investment (BoI) presenting a comprehensive report on the progress and action plan in this regard. Prime Minister Shehbaz commended the steps taken by BoI and directed relevant departments to ensure the provision of necessary facilities to Pakistani companies in their collaboration with their Chinese counterparts.
