Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a powerful speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), touching on several critical global issues. He began with a recitation from the Quran, expressing pride in representing Pakistan for the second time at the General Assembly and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the UN Charter.
Sharif condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, describing it as a “genocidal war” and a humanitarian catastrophe. He called for an end to the violence and urged the international community to work towards a durable peace through a two-state solution for Palestine. He also demanded that Palestine be admitted as a full member of the United Nations.
Turning to the Kashmir conflict, Sharif criticized India for its ongoing repression in the disputed region and urged India to reverse the unilateral and illegal measures it has taken since August 2019. He drew parallels between the plight of the Palestinian people and the struggle of the Kashmiri people for self-determination.

He called on the international community to uphold the principle of “polluter pays” and fulfill commitments to providing climate finance to developing countries.
In addition, Sharif addressed global economic reforms, Pakistan’s economic stability, its fight against terrorism, regional cooperation and connectivity, Islamophobia, and the need for justice and peace. He called for multilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of action on pressing global challenges.
