ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has withdrawn its request for contempt of court proceedings against the Election Commission for not providing a level playing field after the election symbol of the party was taken away.

During today’s proceedings, PTI’s lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa said that he has no confidence in ECP and the elections will not be transparent. Hence, his party is withdrawing the contempt petition against the ECP.

Khosa said that we will go to the people’s court for the survival of democracy. He said that he was instructed by the party to withdraw the application. He said that the court verdict has robbed his party of more than 230 seats. Khosa said that the court delivered the verdict on January 13 at 11:30 pm which hurt the PTI, adding that how can they now expect to be provided a level playing field.

The PTI lawyer said that the Chief Justice has powers under Article 187 of the Constitution. He said that the Chief Justice can issue the order. But PTI is no longer interested in pursuing its case in the Supreme Court.
