Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In preparation for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, the Punjab government has issued orders for army troops to be deployed to maintain law and order. The troops will be responsible for security at airports, roads, venues, and surrounding areas, as well as providing protection for foreign delegates attending the summit. The deployment also grants the army personnel the authority to open fire in emergency situations.

The summit, scheduled for October 15 to 16, is seen as an opportunity for Pakistan to showcase its commitment to peace, dialogue, and diplomacy on a regional scale. Additionally, the Economic Coordination Committee approved additional funds for hosting the summit, and a detailed security plan was approved during a meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Interior. The decision to deploy army troops comes amidst PTI supporters marching towards the twin cities for a protest.
