The Punjab government has once again extended the ban on visits with inmates at Adiala jail, now with no set end date, citing ongoing security concerns. This decision, reported by Geo News, means that the ban will remain in effect until further notice. Sources indicate that the jail administration acted on the government’s directive.
Previously, the ban was in place from October 4 to 18, then extended for an additional two days. While the extension appears to focus on high-profile political prisoners like Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, it applies to all inmates.
Last week, Adiala jail officials dismissed allegations from the PTI regarding mistreatment of Imran Khan, instead highlighting the variety of meals he receives while incarcerated. This disclosure followed PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan’s claims about poor conditions during his visit with Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year.
In a statement to the media in Islamabad, Gohar mentioned it was the first time that Imran spoke about his prison conditions. In response, jail authorities assured that Khan was receiving all the amenities allowed under B-Class rules, including round-the-clock electricity, nutritious food tailored to his preferences, and daily exercise.
The official statement detailed that meals were prepared by a professional cook, with breakfast including items like coffee and fresh juice, and lunch consisting of traditional curries and meats. Additionally, Imran has access to newspapers and the freedom to exercise for two hours daily.
Authorities emphasized that claims of mistreatment circulating on social media and among political circles are unfounded, affirming that Imran’s conditions meet all legal standards and are regularly monitored by medical professionals.
