The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 for a period of three days in response to potential security threats & PTI political gathering. According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction will be in effect from Thursday, August 22 to Saturday, August 24. During this time frame, political gatherings, rallies, and sit-ins will not be permitted in the province. The spokesperson stated that this decision aims to uphold public order, ensure the safety of individuals, and safeguard property in light of the existing terrorism threats.

This action follows the revocation of the non-objection certificate (NOC) previously granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for organizing a political gathering at Tarnol Chowk on August 22, as announced by the Islamabad administration. The cancellation of the NOC was decided during a meeting led by Islamabad Chief Commissioner Chaudhry Mohammad Ali Randhawa. Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi, during the same meeting, highlighted security concerns stemming from multiple events, including the ongoing Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Rizvi expressed the challenges of managing large crowds during a political rally and emphasized the need to prioritize security in light of recent incidents, which included protesters reaching the Supreme Court building. Consequently, the decision was made to refrain from granting permission for public rallies under these circumstances.
