A political party needs to train its political workers and members to become good legislators and executive heads because they are the ones who will be responsible for making and implementing policies that affect the lives of citizens. Political parties are potent and functional organizations. Therefore, training political parties’ political and human resources is imperative. Despite the lapse of 76 years, democracy, as a form of governance, is not functional in Pakistan. One of the fundamental reasons for this non-functionality of political parties is the untrained political and human resources of the political parties. Political parties need to be more organized and the incumbents trained.
Effective legislators and executive heads need to have a deep understanding of the issues facing their constituents and the ability to work collaboratively with others to develop and implement solutions. They also need to have strong communication skills, be able to build coalitions and consensus and be able to navigate complex political systems.
Political parties play a crucial role in providing training and support to their members to develop these skills. By investing in the development of their members, parties can ensure that they have a pool of talented and competent leaders who are able to represent their constituents and govern effectively.
In addition, political parties also benefit from having well-trained members who are able to communicate the party’s message and policies to voters effectively. This can help build stronger party support and increase its chances of electoral success.
Overall, training political workers and members to become good legislators and executive heads is essential for building a strong and effective political system that can meet citizens’ needs and promote the common good.
Political parties in developing countries like Pakistan can take several steps to improve their effectiveness and promote good governance. Here are some possible actions that political parties in Pakistan (or any other developing country) could consider:
- Invest in training and development: Political parties can invest in training and development programs for their members, including leadership development, policy analysis, and communication skills. This can help to build a pool of competent and effective leaders who are able to represent the party and govern effectively.
- Promote transparency and accountability: Political parties can promote transparency and accountability by publicly disclosing their sources of funding, adopting clear and transparent selection processes for candidates, and implementing internal systems to monitor and address corruption.
- Encourage greater participation: Political parties can encourage greater participation by engaging with citizens and civil society organizations, creating opportunities for members to participate in policy development and decision-making, and promoting greater diversity and inclusion within the party.
- Build coalitions and partnerships: Political parties can build coalitions and partnerships with other parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to promote shared goals and increase their influence and effectiveness.
- Develop and promote clear policy platforms: Political parties can develop and promote clear policy platforms that reflect the needs and aspirations of their constituents. This can help to build support and credibility for the party and increase its chances of electoral success.
- Foster internal democracy: Political parties can foster internal democracy by promoting inclusive and participatory decision-making processes, respecting the rights and opinions of all members, and ensuring that party leadership is elected through a transparent and democratic process.
These are just a few examples of the actions that political parties in developing countries like Pakistan can take to improve their effectiveness and promote good governance. By taking these steps, parties can build stronger institutions, promote democracy and good governance, and better serve the needs of their constituents. Lastly, political parties in Pakistan should develop their political parties as political organizations. Therefore, it is critical to developing qualitative and operational human resources, especially the political workers and members, so that they can be functional legislators and political executives to run the affairs of the legislatures and executives.
