SUPARCO Predicts Ramadan 2025 to Begin on March 2 in Pakistan Based on Moon Calculations

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has forecasted that Ramadan 2025 is likely to start on March 2, based on its moon visibility calculations. According to SUPARCO, the new moon will occur at 5:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on February 28, 2025. However, due to the moon’s low altitude and position, it will be difficult to spot with the naked eye, as the moon’s age will be just 12 hours at sunset.

SUPARCO further explained that the angle between the moon and the sun on February 28 will be only 7 degrees, making it virtually impossible for the human eye to detect the crescent. As a result, the first day of fasting in Pakistan is expected to fall on March 2, 2025.

The agency also noted that the crescent moon might be visible in Saudi Arabia on February 28, meaning that Ramadan could begin there on March 1, 2025. SUPARCO has predicted that the Eid ul-Fitr crescent will be sighted on March 30, with Eid potentially taking place on March 31, 2025.

However, SUPARCO emphasized that the final decision on the sighting of both the Ramadan and Eid crescents will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
