A tragic explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck occurred outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday, killing the driver and injuring seven others. The FBI is investigating the possibility that the explosion was an act of terrorism, especially in light of the recent New Orleans truck attack that killed 15 people on New Year’s Day. While authorities have not confirmed the cause, they are exploring connections between the two incidents.
Videos captured by witnesses show the Cybertruck erupting into flames as it sat outside the Trump hotel. The blast happened just hours after a man drove a truck into a crowd in New Orleans, causing a deadly attack on New Year’s Day. The Trump International Hotel is owned by the Trump Organization, which is headed by the incoming president, Donald Trump.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a prominent supporter of Trump, responded to the incident, confirming that the explosion was caused by fireworks or a bomb in the back of the truck, not by the vehicle itself. Musk emphasized that all vehicle telemetry, the remote data collection, indicated the vehicle was functioning normally at the time of the explosion. The driver, who rented the Cybertruck in Colorado, was found dead inside, and the seven others who were injured suffered minor injuries.
In a separate incident, a mass shooting took place in the Queens borough of New York City late on New Year’s Day, injuring ten people. Police reported that six women and four men were wounded when several suspects opened fire outside a private event club. Fortunately, all injured individuals are expected to recover. The NYPD has ruled out terrorism in this case, and no further information about the suspects has been released.
US authorities continue to investigate both the Las Vegas and New Orleans attacks, looking into potential terrorism links. The New Orleans attacker, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran, had pledged allegiance to ISIS and posted several videos on social media prior to the attack. However, the FBI has stated there appears to be no connection between Jabbar’s actions and the explosion in Las Vegas.
