President Biden commands USAID and other federal government agencies to evaluate the best ways to help the regions devastated by the catastrophic quake in Turkey and Syria, says National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in a recent statement.
The U.S. is deeply disturbed by the catastrophic effects of the quake, adds Sullivan.
On Monday, a destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and Syria, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives and causing widespread destruction to buildings and homes. The tremor was felt as far as the island of Cyprus, leaving the locals in a state of shock and disbelief.
According to local authorities in Turkey, the preliminary death toll stands at 53, but the number is feared to increase as many people were still asleep in their homes when the earthquake struck
