US Ambassador Blome Meets Interior Minister Naqvi, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation

US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, recently held a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, at the Ministry of Interior in Islamabad. The discussion centered around enhancing bilateral relations and mutual interests, particularly focusing on security and law enforcement cooperation.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Blome and emphasized the importance of collaboration in counter-terrorism, Anti-narcotics efforts, and overall security measures. Both agreed to organize a law enforcement dialogue scheduled for October, aimed at further strengthening their cooperation in these critical areas.

The Session was attended by key officials including the Federal Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and IG Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi. Minister Naqvi highlighted the significance of US support in enhancing the capabilities of Pakistani law enforcement agencies, underscoring its crucial role in national security.

Naqvi also briefed Ambassador Blome on recent discussions held in New York to foster cooperation between Islamabad Police and the New York Police Department, with plans for an upcoming visit of an Islamabad police delegation to New York for training purposes.

In addition to security matters, Minister Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of minorities, referencing recent actions taken against perpetrators involved in the Jaranwala incident.

Switching to sports diplomacy, Naqvi discussed the growing stature of the United States as an international cricket venue, applauding the successful hosting of the T20 World Cup. He revealed plans for a tri-nation series involving Pakistan, the US, and Canada, as well as the establishment of cricket leagues in both the US and Canada.

Ambassador Blome expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm and turnout for cricket matches in the US, highlighting the positive trajectory of sports relations between the two countries.
