US Strikes Iran Again After Ceasefire Violation

[post-views]

WASHINGTON: The United States military launched fresh strikes against Iran on Saturday, targeting multiple sites including military surveillance infrastructure, according to the US Central Command.

CENTCOM stated the strikes were carried out in direct response to what it described as continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping in the region.

The military command explained that following American strikes the previous day — themselves a response to an Iranian attack on the commercial vessel Ever Lovely — Tehran was given an opportunity to honour an existing ceasefire agreement. Iran instead chose to violate it. Iranian forces launched a one-way attack drone that struck the commercial tanker Kiku on Saturday morning, prompting the renewed American military response.

The escalation signals a serious breakdown in whatever fragile restraint had existed between the two sides, raising urgent concerns about the stability of commercial shipping lanes and the broader trajectory of US-Iran tensions.
