On March 9th, 2023, the fourth season of Netflix’s psychological crime thriller, You, came to a thrilling end.

In a shocking finale, fans were thrown a curveball that was followed by Taylor Swift’s latest hit, Anti-Hero. Showrunner, Sera Gamble, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about how she obtained the rights to the song after originally planning on using a different score.

“The song had just come out, and we had a different big song that was more British,” Gamble explained. “When I watched the video, I realized it was hilariously perfect for Joe. My first thought was, ‘Why would she let us use this immediately?'”

Despite her reservations, Gamble decided to ask for permission anyway, knowing how special and timely the song was. “It’s a very, very precious song, and it would mean a lot. But it was one of those things where I just thought, ‘No harm in asking.’ And then we were very grateful when she said yes.”

As for the British song, Gamble hinted that it’s still in her “pocket” and may be used in a future episode.

Before the season aired, Penn Badgley, who portrays the show’s murderous stalker protagonist, made his TikTok debut in October 2022, lip-syncing to Anti-Hero while dressed as his character, Joe Goldberg, in a hilariously accurate portrayal of his infamous dilemma.
