Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, warning it would cripple the independence of the judiciary and disturb the constitutional equilibrium of federalism. PTI leader Asad Qaiser said his party would resist any move to create a Constitutional Court or alter the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, cautioning that such changes could trigger political instability.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) initiated the amendment, backed by PPP and JUI-F, to restructure judicial benches and modify financial allocations among provinces. Qaiser argued that tampering with the NFC Award would deepen provincial grievances and warned of ensuing “chaos in the country.”

PTI has nominated Mahmood Khan Achakzai as opposition leader and urged the National Assembly speaker to remain impartial. Senator Ali Zafar added that constitutional changes must be debated transparently in parliament, not dictated through political alliances.
