RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Thursday paid heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who have laid down their lives for Pakistan’s peace and freedom, saying the nation’s current stability is built on their ultimate sacrifices.
Speaking at a solemn investiture ceremony at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, General Munir presented prestigious military awards—including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat—to army officers and soldiers for their courage in combat and exemplary service to the nation.
Family members of fallen heroes received medals awarded posthumously, in an emotional moment attended by senior military officials and the families of honorees.
“Martyrs and war veterans are the pride of our nation. Their sacrifices are a sacred trust for every Pakistani,” Gen Munir said. He praised the strength and resilience of the families left behind, calling their sacrifices unmatched and deeply respected.
He also commended the unwavering commitment of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies for their tireless work in counterterrorism, especially in neutralizing high-value threats to national security.
Gen Munir’s remarks followed his recent pledge to eliminate all obstacles to Pakistan’s development. “Do the enemies of Pakistan believe a handful of terrorists can determine our future?” he asked, boldly asserting that not even ten generations of militants could weaken Balochistan or Pakistan.
His comments came amid a disturbing rise in terrorist violence. Pakistan now ranks second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a 45% surge in terrorism-related deaths over the past year. In March alone, the country witnessed over 100 militant attacks—the highest in a decade.
Just this week, a deadly explosion in Balochistan’s Mastung district claimed the lives of three policemen and injured 20 others. Meanwhile, a roadside bomb in Bajaur district injured eight people, including security personnel and civilians.
As the threat of terrorism escalates, Gen Munir reaffirmed the nation’s resolve: Pakistan’s defenders will not rest until peace is permanently restored.
