Trump Launches High-Profile Board to Rebuild Gaza

[post-views]

The Trump administration has announced the creation of a “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and governance, naming US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair as founding executive board members. Trump will serve as chairman, with his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner also on the board, which forms part of his 20-point plan to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The board’s structure includes two main bodies: a high-level founding executive board focused on diplomacy and investment, and a Gaza Executive Board responsible for overseeing on-the-ground work through the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG). Other members of the executive board include Marc Rowan, World Bank chief Ajay Banga, and US national security adviser Robert Gabriel, each tasked with portfolios critical to Gaza’s stability.

Sir Tony Blair, the only non-US member, brings experience as a former Middle East envoy and architect of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Argentine President Javier Milei have also accepted invitations to join, while Egypt is still considering participation.

The plan includes an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) led by US Major General Jasper Jeffers to train Palestinian police and ensure security. Phase one of the plan included a ceasefire, partial Israeli withdrawal, and hostage exchanges, while phase two will focus on reconstruction, full demilitarisation, and disarmament of Hamas.

Despite the high-profile appointments, the future of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents remains uncertain amid ongoing humanitarian challenges and fragile ceasefire conditions.
