Terrorist Attacks in Pakistan Decline Sharply Following Security Operations: Report

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has witnessed a substantial reduction in terrorist incidents following intensified security operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to a recent report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).

The report indicates that militant violence has declined significantly over the past five weeks, with terrorist attacks falling by approximately 66 percent during the period. The findings suggest an improvement in the security situation as law enforcement agencies and security forces continue operations against militant groups operating in different parts of the country.

According to the report, the number of terrorist attacks also decreased by 38 percent compared with the preceding week, indicating a further reduction in militant activity. The figures reflect a downward trend in reported attacks, particularly against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in Pakistan’s western provinces.

Security forces conducted ten operations during the reporting period, resulting in the killing of 33 militants. These operations formed part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at disrupting militant networks and preventing attacks against civilians, security personnel, and public infrastructure.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have remained central to Pakistan’s counterterrorism challenges because of recurring militant violence and security threats. Operations in these provinces are therefore considered particularly important for maintaining stability and strengthening the state’s ability to respond to armed groups.

The latest figures offer an indication of the changing security environment. However, a decline in the number of attacks over a limited period does not necessarily establish that the underlying threat has been eliminated. Sustained improvements depend on whether security agencies can maintain operational effectiveness and prevent militant organisations from rebuilding their networks.

Counterterrorism efforts also involve challenges beyond military operations, including intelligence coordination, effective policing, border management, and cooperation between federal and provincial institutions. These measures remain important for addressing the organisational and logistical capabilities of militant groups.

The report’s findings highlight the importance of monitoring security developments over longer periods to determine whether the recent reduction represents a sustained improvement or a temporary fluctuation in militant activity.

For Pakistan, maintaining security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remains essential not only for protecting lives and property but also for supporting economic activity, public confidence, and regional stability.

The reported decline in attacks provides an encouraging development, although continued vigilance and coordinated institutional efforts will be necessary to consolidate the progress achieved through recent counterterrorism operations.
