Pakistan Steps Up Mediation as Fresh US–Iran Talks Loom

[post-views]

A senior Pakistani delegation has arrived in Iran to facilitate a new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, just days before a fragile ceasefire is set to expire on April 22.

The delegation, led by Army Chief Asim Munir, reached Tehran carrying what officials describe as a fresh message from Washington. The visit follows an earlier round of talks held in Islamabad that ended without a breakthrough. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also participating in the mediation effort, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is engaging regional allies during a Gulf tour.

The diplomatic push comes amid rising tensions caused by competing naval blockades, which have disrupted trade and heightened fears for the global economy. Despite this, there are signs of progress, with US President Donald Trump expressing optimism about a potential deal.

Key issues under discussion include Iran’s nuclear programme, control of the Strait of Hormuz, and war-related compensation. While challenges remain, Pakistani officials are hopeful that ongoing efforts could lead to a significant breakthrough and an extension of the ceasefire.
