Afridi Calls Blocking of Adiala Visit ‘Insult’ to KP Mandate

[post-views]

Islamabad police on Tuesday stopped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi from reaching Adiala Jail to meet jailed PTI founder Imran Khan.

Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023 in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, was scheduled to meet family members and associates under Islamabad High Court orders allowing meetings twice a week.

Afridi, accompanied by Imran’s sisters, PTI leaders and workers, was stopped at Chungi No. 26 in Islamabad while heading to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Several PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, also reached the jail but were denied access before the 4pm meeting deadline.

Reports said a medical team arrived at Adiala Jail to examine Imran Khan amid ongoing concerns over his health. PTI leaders have repeatedly demanded access for his personal doctors and treatment at a hospital of his choice.

Speaking to reporters, Afridi termed the move “discrimination” against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and criticised the treatment of Imran’s family. He said blocking an elected chief minister and cabinet members from a peaceful visit was an insult to the people of the province.

The roadblocks caused severe traffic congestion, particularly affecting passengers travelling to Islamabad airport.
