The federal government on Friday announced a reduction of Rs5 per litre in petroleum prices for the coming week, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division.
Under the revised rates, the price of petrol has been lowered from Rs414.78 to Rs409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs409.58 per litre instead of Rs414.58.
The new prices will come into effect from May 16, 2026.
The latest relief follows last week’s sharp increase of nearly Rs15 per litre in fuel prices, which was linked to fluctuations in global oil markets and pressure on the exchange rate. Petroleum prices in Pakistan are reviewed regularly in line with international crude oil prices and currency movements, both of which have a direct impact on domestic fuel costs.
