[post-views]

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi laid the foundation stone for a major infrastructure project in Peshawar, marking the commencement of a Level-II flyover at the intersection of Ring Road and GT Road. Estimated at a cost of Rs 6.2 billion, the project comprises a 640-meter-long, two-lane dual-carriageway flyover alongside the construction and rehabilitation of a 4.5-kilometer road network. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister highlighted the project’s strategic necessity for Peshawar’s urban mobility, noting that it will resolve chronic traffic congestion and streamline key transit routes across the provincial capital.

Peshawar Revitalisation Plan and Infrastructure Roadmap

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Afridi reaffirmed his administration’s focus on modernizing the city’s infrastructure under the broader Rs 200 billion Peshawar Revitalisation Plan. He noted that developmental work across various sectors is progressing rapidly and announced that groundbreaking for the upcoming Outer Ring Road project would take place shortly.

Political Stance on PTI Long March and Legal Mandates

During a media briefing following the ceremony, the Chief Minister addressed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, asserting that the party’s charter of demands remains entirely within the parameters of the Constitution and law. He criticized opponent political factions for unconstitutional practices, specifically citing the alleged abduction of parliamentarians and road blockades. Reaffirming the fundamental right to peaceful protest, Afridi stated that collective political efforts would continue in pursuit of Imran Khan’s vision for ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ (true freedom). He added that while political negotiations had been given ample time, state authorities failed to provide a constructive response and continued to ignore binding rulings from the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court regarding Imran Khan’s legal meetings and medical care.
