On Saturday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif compared Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to the extremist Indian organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) amidst clashes between the police and PTI workers in Lahore.
The police and PTI supporters clashed intermittently at Zaman Park since March 14, resulting in injuries to several personnel from both sides. Authorities have arrested over 35 PTI workers who were allegedly involved in illegal activities.
Khan had been holed up in his Lahore residence for several days, resisting arrest in the Toshakhana case. Non-bailable arrest warrants had been issued against him by an Islamabad court due to his repeated non-appearances.
In an attempt to stop the police from arresting Khan, PTI workers had thrown Molotov cocktails at police and Rangers personnel, while also burning police vehicles.
The prime minister criticized Khan’s behavior, saying that it exposed his “fascist & militant tendencies.”
