Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Urges Restraint and Support for Palestine in Address at OIC Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in a powerful address delivered in Jeddah, called upon Iran and Palestine to resist the urge to retaliate against recent Israeli aggressions. He cautioned against playing into Benjamin Netanyahu’s attempts to escalate conflict in the Middle East. His statements were made during the OIC’s Executive Council meeting, convened at the request of Palestine and Iran to address the ongoing Israeli aggression.

The tensions escalated further after the assassination of Hamas’ political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, with Iran vowing retaliation against Israel. While acknowledging the desire of Iran and the Palestinian people to take action, Dar warned against falling into Netanyahu’s trap of provoking a broader war.

Furthermore, he urged OIC member states to consider deploying collective measures, including trade and oil sanctions, if Israel persists in its military campaign in Gaza. Additionally, Dar passionately advocated for increased support for Palestinians in Gaza, stressing the critical importance of meeting their essential needs for food, medicine, and energy.

Moreover, he emphasized the urgency of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations. During the meeting, Dar held pivotal discussions with OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, focusing on the pressing situations in Gaza, Indian-administered Kashmir, Islamophobia, discrimination against Muslims, and violence. Furthermore, he utilized this platform to engage with the foreign ministers of Algeria and Malaysia, laying the groundwork for strengthened economic cooperation and trade ties between these nations.
