Experts Urge Pakistan to Build AI Ecosystem as IT Exports Cross $4 Billion

[post-views]

ISLAMABAD: Technology experts have called for a comprehensive national strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s information technology sector, emphasizing investment across the entire artificial intelligence (AI) value chain as IT exports surpass $4 billion for the first time.

Speaking to the media, industry leaders said Pakistan must move beyond basic software services and focus on developing capabilities in energy infrastructure, computing power, AI models, and advanced applications. They argued that relying solely on application development leaves the country vulnerable to automation and global competition.

Liaquat Ali, founder of LA Consulting Corporation, stressed the importance of creating locally owned Urdu and regional-language AI models, securing reliable power supplies for technology parks, and expanding cooperation with Gulf countries on AI infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Computer Society of Pakistan President Tahir Mahmood Chaudhry said Pakistan’s growing pool of technology professionals and rising exports present a major opportunity to achieve $10 billion in annual IT exports. He urged reforms in education, digital infrastructure, international payment systems, and technology diplomacy to ensure long-term growth and global competitiveness.
