Fazlur Rehman Escapes Turmoil: London Bound

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In the midst of the most chaotic period in the country’s political history, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the President of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), has set off for London, according to sources within the party.

With Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) experiencing a wave of departures and crackdowns following the May 9 protests, Fazl is reportedly scheduled to meet with Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), in London to discuss the current state of affairs.

Sources added that the JUI-F leader, who also heads the political alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – PTI’s united rival, will spend a few days in Britain, where he will meet party workers operating in various cities.

The arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the £190 million settlement case on May 9, coupled with the subsequent violent protests that witnessed unruly supporters and workers ransacking and setting fire to state installations across the country, has triggered a mass exodus of leaders from the party.
