Former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has been released after being unlawfully detained by Israeli forces while travelling with humanitarian workers aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on Friday.
According to Dar, the release was made possible through coordinated diplomatic efforts involving several countries. He stated that Greek authorities in Crete facilitated Khan’s release, ensuring his safe transfer out of detention.
Turkey also played a key role in arranging his onward movement to Istanbul, from where he is expected to return to Pakistan. The Pakistani Embassy in Athens was also acknowledged for its support and swift coordination during the process.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Dar strongly condemned the detention of humanitarian workers involved in the flotilla, describing the action as illegal and unacceptable. He also criticized the obstruction of aid intended for civilians in Gaza, calling it a violation of humanitarian principles.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, the foreign minister said the country will continue to support the Palestinian people without hesitation. He emphasized that Islamabad remains committed to raising its voice against actions that block humanitarian assistance or target relief efforts in conflict zones.
The incident has drawn renewed attention to ongoing restrictions on aid deliveries to Gaza amid the continuing crisis.
