Govt notifies 60-day ban on heavy vehicles’ movement in Karachi at daytime

The city authorities have imposed a 60-day restriction on heavy traffic, effective from February 14 to April 13, allowing movement only between 10 PM and 6 AM to ease congestion.

Certain vehicles carrying essential goods like water, cooking oil, medicine, and meat are exempt from these restrictions.

Heavy vehicles are permitted to use three specific routes: Superhighway via Slip Road to New Karachi Industrial Area, National Highway via Manzar Petrol Pump, Younas Chowrangi, Dawood Chowrangi to Road 8000 near Jam Sadiq Bridge, and Northern Bypass via Mauripur Road, Jinnah Bridge, Karachi Port, and Mai Kolachi Road up to the NLC intersection.

Authorities have warned transporters of strict action if they violate the ban.

On Friday, Sindh’s senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Home Minister Zia Lanjar, Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawala, and Commissioner Hasan Naqvi met with transport representatives. They informed transporters that all heavy vehicles, including those from other provinces, must obtain registration and fitness certificates from the transport department.

The home minister warned against any disruption of traffic and stated that any action causing inconvenience to the public would be dealt with strictly. He urged for collaborative efforts to improve the city, emphasizing that traffic obstruction would not be tolerated.
