India’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that it is open to engaging in development projects in Afghanistan in the near future, despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. This development follows a meeting in Dubai between Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the meeting, India responded to a request from Afghanistan for assistance, agreeing to provide further material support, particularly in the areas of health and refugee rehabilitation. The statement emphasized that India’s initial focus would be on contributing aid to Afghanistan’s health sector and addressing the needs of refugees. India has already sent several shipments of essential supplies to Afghanistan, including wheat, medicines, COVID-19 vaccines, and winter clothing. This step reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting Afghanistan, even in the absence of formal diplomatic ties.
