The future of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy remains uncertain, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly unwilling to accept Pakistan’s proposed “neutral venue formula.” According to reports from Indian media, the proposal would see both India and Pakistan playing their matches in Dubai instead of their home countries, effectively avoiding any tournament held on each other’s soil for the next three years.
The proposal, which was discussed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in an attempt to resolve the deadlock over hosting rights, aims to sidestep the ongoing dispute surrounding the tournament’s venue. Under this formula, matches originally scheduled to be held in Pakistan would instead take place in Dubai, with the same arrangement for India’s fixtures in the event. The new proposal was intended to end the scheduling and hosting impasse, but the BCCI is unlikely to accept it, claiming there are no security concerns in India.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought a written assurance from India regarding the proposal. However, the BCCI and ICC have yet to respond. The issue remains contentious, with India refusing to play in Pakistan due to security concerns, despite reassurances from Pakistan. Discussions are expected to intensify in the coming days as both boards, under the ICC’s watch, try to find a resolution to this ongoing dispute, which has overshadowed the tournament’s future.
