India has strongly criticised comments shared by Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, calling them “uninformed” and “in poor taste.” The post included remarks from podcaster Michael Savage, who accused immigrants from India and China of misusing birthright citizenship in the United States.
India’s foreign ministry responded firmly, saying such statements do not reflect the reality of the India-U.S. relationship, which is built on mutual respect and shared interests. The remarks sparked outrage across India, with the opposition Indian National Congress describing them as insulting and urging Narendra Modi to raise the issue directly with Trump.
The controversy comes at a sensitive time, as ties between the two countries have recently faced strain. Disputes over India’s purchase of Russian oil, trade tariffs imposed by the U.S., and immigration policies have added to tensions. Trump has also criticised programs like the H-1B visa, widely used by skilled Indian workers.
Despite these challenges, both nations are working to stabilise relations, with upcoming diplomatic visits expected to help ease friction and rebuild cooperation.
