2023 saw the highest number of humanitarian worker deaths ever, and 2024 might be even worse. This shows that the world is not doing enough to protect these workers and the people they help. Despite international laws to regulate armed conflict, these laws are being ignored, and the people who break them are not being punished. As a result, attacks on humanitarian workers and civilians keep happening, and it needs to stop.
This World Humanitarian Day, we are demanding an end to these crimes and the impunity that allows them to happen. Simply celebrating humanitarian workers is not enough; we need those in power to take action to protect civilians and aid workers in conflict zones. We aim to draw attention to the normalization of these attacks and urge world leaders to step in and help protect those in need.
In March 2024, a report estimated that over 30,000 civilians, including 150 aid workers, had died in Gaza. Unfortunately, the funding needed to help people in need has fallen short. Additionally, attacks on essential facilities have left millions without the services they require to survive.
In 2023, the number of aid workers killed more than doubled from the previous year, and the majority of those affected were local workers. South Sudan has been the most dangerous place for aid workers for several years.

Concludingly, the day has a signficant importance for the world. Equally, important is to implement the spirit of the day through international law. What is most important? The most important part is the functionality of the international political order. United Nations and especially the UN Security Council need to implement international law. Without implementing international law, world peace will always remain at stake. Human history has already suffered a lot at the hands of warmongers and power grabbers. It is time to implement the developed international consensus on the importance of World Humanitarian Day.
