Internet Users Frustrated on Internet Restrictions

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Internet users in Pakistan face frequent and prolonged connectivity issues. Mobile data services are particularly unreliable in certain areas. The government’s decision to block access to X, citing security concerns, remains in effect. Users still require a VPN to access the platform.
These disruptions are causing significant economic harm to online businesses and hindering everyday activities. WhatsApp users also report severe service degradation. Despite public outcry and repeated requests, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has offered no explanation or resolution.

Recent incidents include a nationwide PTCL mobile internet outage and a trial run of a firewall that severely impacted social media platforms. Government officials claim the firewall is intended to curb the spread of misinformation by influential social media users. However, this measure has raised concerns about free speech and the future of internet-based businesses.
