Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has accused Washington of breaching the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement reached after months of Pakistani mediation between Tehran and the United States.
In a statement posted on X, the ambassador said Pakistan had spent several months facilitating talks between the two sides, work that eventually produced a 14-point memorandum under which Iran and the US also agreed to keep negotiating within its framework. He said Washington subsequently began reading key provisions of the document in a way that departed from the text both sides had originally agreed to, an interpretation Tehran has rejected outright, insisting it will not accept any reading that strays from the agreed wording.
The ambassador went further, alleging that the United States broke the agreement altogether by launching military action against Iran and striking the country’s infrastructure. He argued that these actions stand in direct contradiction to the commitments Washington made under the understanding Pakistan had worked to broker.
