Iran hanged two men on Saturday for allegedly killing a member of the security forces amid countrywide protests after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman, on September 16, bringing criticism from the EU, the US, and other Western nations.
The two men hanged on Saturday had been convicted of murdering a Basij paramilitary force militia member. In the same case, three people were condemned to death, and 11 were sentenced to jail.
“The principal offenders of the crime that led to the wrongful death of Ruhollah Ajamian, Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, were hanged this morning,” the judiciary stated in a statement published by the private news agency.
The most recent executions increase the total to four.
