Pakistan and Bangladesh Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Pakistan and Bangladesh have expressed a commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, economy, culture, health, education, and people-to-people links, to benefit both nations.

This was the focus of a meeting between Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Saturday. The discussion highlighted the importance of improving air and shipping connections between the two countries to boost bilateral trade and strengthen people-to-people relations.

Gilani welcomed the High Commissioner and emphasized the significant potential for collaboration in areas such as education, health, agriculture, and culture. He called for increased cultural exchanges and people-to-people interactions to bring the two nations even closer. He also expressed satisfaction over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of white rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh, which is expected to boost trade between the countries.

The Acting President further noted that Pakistan highly values its relationship with Bangladesh, which is grounded in shared faith, history, and cultural ties. He also praised Professor Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, for his global recognition in microfinance and social development, which is highly respected in Pakistan.

The High Commissioner spoke about the potential for expanding health tourism and highlighted the growing interest of Bangladeshi students in pursuing higher education in Pakistani universities.

In response, Acting President Gilani assured the High Commissioner of Pakistan’s full support and cooperation to further strengthen bilateral ties in all areas of mutual interest.
