The Pakistan Army has promoted several respected officers to the rank of Lieutenant General, placing them in important roles that will help improve the army’s operations and organization.
The new Lieutenant Generals are Tabbasum Habib, Amir Najam, Arshad Naseem, Hassan Khattak, and Azhar Waqas.
Lt Gen Ahsan Gulrez, who was promoted last year, is now the Commander of 2 Corps in Multan, a main fighting unit for the army. Before this, he was the Director General Joint Staff.
Maj Gen Tabbasum Habib has been promoted to Lt Gen and will now lead the Joint Staff, coordinating efforts between different branches of the armed forces. He was previously focused on planning.
Lt Gen Amir Najam will continue as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University, where he oversees advanced military training. He previously held a different instructor position at the university.
Currently, Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor serves as the president of the National Defence University and is expected to retire on December 22, 2024. Lt Gen Arshad Naseem is now the Surgeon General, responsible for military health services, a role that had been vacant for four months.
Lt Gen Hassan Khattak has taken on the Quarter Master General position, managing logistics and supplies for the army. This position opened up when the previous Quarter Master General became the Secretary of Defence. He was previously with the ISI.
Lt Gen Azhar Waqas has been promoted to Adjutant General in Rawalpindi, managing personnel and welfare in the army. He previously led the Rangers in Sindh.
These appointments show the Pakistan Army’s commitment to strengthening its leadership and preparing for new challenges, with the new Lieutenant Generals bringing valuable experience to their roles.
