Pakistan’s junior tennis team triumphed 2-1 over Indonesia in a thrilling final to claim the Davis Cup Juniors 2025 title on Saturday. The team displayed exceptional teamwork and skill, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
This victory earned Pakistan a spot in the prestigious ITF Asia/Oceania Davis Cup Juniors Qualifying Event, scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan from May 19-24, 2025. The competition will feature the top 16 teams from Asia and Oceania, all vying for a chance to compete in the World Group.
Captain Shehzad Khan expressed his pride in the team’s performance, saying, “I am extremely proud of how the boys played from start to finish. Their dedication and hard work paid off.”
The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, congratulated the team on their historic achievement, calling it a moment of national pride. He commended players Mikael Ali Baig, Abu Bakar Talha, and Hamza Roman, along with captain Shehzad Khan, for their resilience and commitment. Qureshi also noted the growing presence of Pakistan’s tennis on the global stage.
Highlighting the team’s remarkable progress, Qureshi mentioned that Pakistan finished 16th in 2023, 5th in 2024, and now emerged as champions in 2025, marking a significant breakthrough. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of ATP coach Robert Davis and ATP trainer Eduardo Laloc, who led an intensive training camp in Islamabad in February 2025.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Yasir Pirzada was also praised for his steadfast support in facilitating international coaching programs, which have been crucial for the development of tennis in the country.
PTF Secretary General Colonel (retired) Ziauddin Tufail congratulated the players, their families, and the nation, stating, “This victory marks a new era for Pakistan’s junior tennis, showcasing the incredible talent we possess and the bright future of our young players.”
