Security forces in Pakistan successfully thwarted several infiltration attempts by terrorists and Afghan Taliban fighters at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, preventing a significant security breach. On the nights of December 27 and 28, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists attempted to cross into Pakistan from the Kurram and North Waziristan regions, using Afghan Taliban border posts. However, Pakistani security forces acted swiftly and foiled the infiltration attempt, sources revealed.
The terrorists attempted to breach the border again in the early hours of Saturday, but when their efforts failed, they resorted to unprovoked heavy weapon fire on Pakistani border posts. In response, Pakistan’s security forces launched a strong counterattack, resulting in heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with over 15 terrorists and Taliban fighters reported killed, and several others injured.

The fierce shelling forced Afghan Taliban forces to retreat, abandoning six of their posts. While no Pakistani soldiers were killed, three were injured during the exchange of fire. Pakistan has consistently urged the Afghan Taliban to prevent terrorists from using Afghan soil to carry out attacks against Pakistan, but sources allege that the Afghan Taliban continue to support these militant elements.
The border tensions highlight the urgent need for dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to address these security threats.
