Pakistan Senate Warns of Swift Response to Any Indian Aggression Amid Rising Tensions

In a strong and unified stance, the Senate of Pakistan unanimously passed a resolution on Friday, vowing that any act of aggression or “misadventure” by India would be met with a firm, swift, and decisive response. The resolution was moved by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and came in direct reaction to India’s unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, following the recent deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Senate declared that Pakistan is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, whether the threat comes in the form of “water terrorism” or military provocation. The resolution made it clear that while Pakistan continues to uphold its commitment to regional peace, it will not tolerate any actions that violate its national interests or security.

It also condemned what it described as an “orchestrated and malicious campaign” by the Indian government to scapegoat Pakistan and exploit terrorism-related narratives for political advantage. The statement called India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty not only unlawful and unilateral, but also a direct violation of international agreements, amounting to what Pakistan considers an act of war.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have escalated dramatically after India blamed Pakistan for a mass shooting in Pahalgam, IIOJK, where 26 civilians were killed. Since then, both countries have engaged in diplomatic and military escalations, including cross-border firing reported in Leepa Valley, along the Line of Control (LoC).

While local officials, including Syed Ashfaq Gilani from Jhelum Valley district, confirmed that there was no harm to civilians and that life remains normal in the area, the specter of a broader conflict looms large.

In light of the rapidly worsening situation, the United Nations has urged both India and Pakistan to de-escalate immediately. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stressed that the crisis must not spiral further, and called for peaceful resolution through dialogue and mutual engagement.

The Senate’s message was clear: Pakistan seeks peace but will not back down. The resolution underscores Pakistan’s position that national dignity, sovereignty, and international agreements must be respected—and violations will not go unanswered.
