During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, it was announced that Pakistan’s first domestically manufactured four-wheeled electric vehicle is scheduled to be released in December. The government has issued 49 licenses for the local production of two and three-wheeled electric vehicles since 2022, with 25 factories already manufacturing these vehicles.
In addition, Dewan Farooque Motors Limited has begun production of electric vehicles at its assembly plant after receiving approval from the Engineering Development Board. Chinese electric vehicle company BYD has also entered the Pakistani market.
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed authorities to present a comprehensive financial model for electric vehicles and to finalize the Electric Vehicles policy by November. He emphasized the importance of improving licensing regulations related to EV manufacturing in Pakistan and highlighted the environmental benefits and potential foreign exchange savings of electric vehicles.

Furthermore, plans are underway to distribute e-motor bikes to high-performing students of government schools and to prepare a comprehensive plan for the electrification of public transport in Islamabad. Recharge stations for electric vehicles will be set up on motorways and highways, and the government is considering offering affordable electricity for EV charging stations.
