Pakistani Ambassador Explores Potential Coal Imports from Kyrgyzstan for Power Generation

According to reliable sources, Pakistan is considering the option of importing coal from Kyrgyzstan for power generation until its power plants are transitioned to Thar coal. This potential collaboration could bring significant benefits to both countries. The Ambassador of Pakistan to Kyrgyz Republic met with Talaibek Baigaziev, Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Energy, to discuss this promising energy cooperation.

During the meeting, Talaibek expressed satisfaction at the potential resumption of the stalled CASA-1000 project, a venture that promises significant benefits to both countries, and optimistically projected its completion by the end of 2026. He also indicated the interest of the Energy Minister of Kyrgyz Republic in holding a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari.

The scheduled call is expected to cover topics such as the supply of coal to Pakistan from Kyrgyz Republic and the supply of electricity from Pakistan to Kyrgyz Republic during the winter season through CASA-1000. It was revealed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that during the 46th session of the Pakistan-Kyrgyz Republic Joint Ministerial Commission, the then caretaker Energy Minister Muhammad Ali held discussions with the Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Energy regarding the potential import of coal from Kyrgyz Republic to Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistan also offered to provide electricity to Kyrgyz Republic during the winter season through the CASA-1000 network.

Furthermore, both parties have agreed to establish a Joint Working Group, a crucial step that will facilitate further discussions on the aforementioned matters. The Kyrgyz side has requested the composition of the Joint Working Group from the Pakistani side for further coordination and collaboration.
