Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Makes Stopover in London Before Attending UN General Assembly

Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister, arrived in London on Saturday as a brief stopover before heading to the United States to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will take place from September 23 to 27.

During his two-day stay in London, the Prime Minister plans to meet with global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, and participate in discussions on rising sea levels and leadership for peace. He will also address the international community’s need for decisive actions against climate change and Islamophobia, and emphasize the importance of reforming the international financial structure and resolving longstanding issues such as the Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir conflicts.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will attend several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA session, including the High-level Meeting on Existential Threats Posed by Sea-level Rise and the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Leadership for Peace. He will reaffirm his support for the UN’s role in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.

Before departing for New York, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment on the social media platform “X” to present Pakistan’s stance on international affairs at the global platform.

It was also informed that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will not proceed to New York to participate in the UNGA session due to important diplomatic commitments and preparations for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to be held in Islamabad.
