Amid escalating government criticism, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stood firm in its call for the public disclosure of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission (HRC) Report. The party’s unwavering stance comes after a controversial social media post attributed to PTI founder Imran Khan sparked intense backlash and prompted an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Wing.

The post, dated May 26, featured a video and a quote purportedly from Imran Khan, urging every Pakistani to study the HRC report to discern the true perpetrator behind the country’s disintegration – General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The video implicated the former military dictator in the events leading to the country’s breakup and highlighted alleged atrocities committed by the Pakistani military during the civil war.

Following persistent government criticism and a subsequent distancing of Imran Khan from the contentious post, the PTI has reiterated its demand for the immediate release of the HRC report. The party emphasized the need to learn from history and inform the public about the facts, drawing parallels between the current political landscape and the events of the 1970s that led to the tragic downfall of East Pakistan.

Amid the FIA’s investigation and potential legal repercussions, the PTI core committee rejected the probe as unjustified and announced the development of a detailed legal strategy in response to the matter. The party underscored that the collapse of East Pakistan was a profound tragedy rooted in political factors, as extensively documented in the HRC report.

Furthermore, the PTI conveyed a message to today’s state decision-makers, urging a return to constitutional bounds and emphasizing the detrimental impact of power-hungry individuals on the country’s integrity. Notably, the party clarified its respect for the military as an institution tasked with upholding national security and integrity within the confines of the Constitution and law, asserting that its criticism was directed at specific individuals rather than the military establishment as a whole.

In addition to its resolute stance on the HRC report, the PTI disclosed plans for nationwide peaceful protests, signalling an intent to mobilize its organizational structures at various levels. This announcement coincided with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s admonition for Imran Khan to refrain from escalating tensions, suggesting that the PTI’s actions were exacerbating discord and attempting to revive historical grievances.
