Former president and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Arif Alvi has voiced strong allegations, claiming that the current “powerless Form 47 rulers” are incapable of making sensible decisions, rendering political dialogues futile. Alvi, speaking to reporters in Faisalabad, asserted that incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan is being pressured to “strike a deal and leave the country.” According to Alvi, Khan has adamantly rejected this offer, opting to remain in the country “at any cost.”
Alvi predicted a complete failure for those allegedly conspiring to convict Khan, the former prime minister. Emphasizing his party’s stance on dialogue, Alvi stated that PTI is willing to engage in talks with “stakeholders” but not with “non-stakeholders.” He urged stakeholders to set aside animosity and embrace empathy and reassured them against any potential risks following the release of the PTI founder. Alvi demanded the release of the former prime minister, the upholding of the rule of law in the country, and the return of the party’s mandate.
In a press conference in Lahore, Alvi expressed disillusionment, stating that his party could not engage with the current rulers, who he described as “powerless,” lacking the authority to make decisions. He emphasized the need to engage in dialogue with those who possess real decision-making power.
Following calls from the incumbent government for PTI to engage in talks to resolve the political crisis, Alvi’s remarks indicate a reluctance from the former ruling party to provide a clear response thus far. In light of this, Alvi’s statement reinforces the party’s stance against holding dialogues with their political opponents to restore stability to the country.
Amid these developments, Alvi conveyed a sense of hopelessness, asserting that accountability in Pakistan seems unattainable.
