PTI Leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid Hospitalized After Health Deteriorates

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has been transferred to Services Hospital after her health condition worsened at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. According to documents from the hospital administration, Dr. Rashid has been admitted and is undergoing medical tests due to abdominal pain. As a cancer survivor, she will be kept under observation for 24 hours.

The jail administration declared Dr Rashid a “critical prisoner,” as stated in a document issued by the Kot Lakhpat Jail’s medical officer. The document also mentioned that she had not eaten anything since Wednesday morning and was facing dehydration after experiencing multiple episodes of vomiting at the jail.

Dr Rashid has been detained for months in connection with the May 9 riots that erupted following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case last year. Amid the ongoing arrests and legal proceedings, Dr Rashid and several other PTI leaders, workers, and supporters have been detained or rearrested in various cases.

In a recent hearing, Dr Rashid wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, urging the formation of a judicial commission to address the May 9 incident. She questioned the absence of police with case records and the prosecutor during the proceedings, emphasizing the prolonged imprisonment of women affiliated with her party since the incident occurred a year ago.
