Punjab Government Neglects Record-Keeping in Land Lease Controversy

The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed that the Punjab government failed to document the minutes of a ministerial committee meeting held in October last year. The meeting was allegedly conducted to modify the terms and conditions, enabling the leasing of state land to the Pakistan Army for corporate farming.

On Monday, a single bench of the LHC reconvened to hear a petition challenging the allocation of extensive public land in Punjab to the military for “corporate agricultural farming.”

According to the court proceedings, the Punjab government initially addressed the matter on June 25, 2021, when the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar, approved a summary to lease out provincial land for corporate farming under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
