Punjab Government’s Roshan Gharana Scheme: How to Get Solar System?

In a landmark endeavor to address the escalating electricity expenses, the Punjab government has introduced the Roshan Gharana scheme, a beacon of hope that is poised to usher in a new era of affordable and sustainable energy, bringing much-needed relief to residents.

The ambitious Roshan Gharana initiative aims to equip 4.5 million homes across the province with solar systems, offering much-needed respite to consumers grappling with exorbitant energy costs. The program entails the installation of solar panels in households through convenient installment plans, wherein the system’s size is tailored to match the occupants’ monthly electricity usage. Depending on their consumption levels, households will be provided with solar panels ranging from 500 watts to larger systems for higher consumption tiers.

To qualify for the scheme, residents are required to have an annual electricity consumption of up to 500 units and should be tax filers. However, individuals benefiting from government assistance programs or with a history of electricity theft are not eligible for this initiative.

The registration process is straightforward and hassle-free, wherein households can submit their identity card number and electricity bill reference number to 8800. Following a selection process, successful applicants will have the option to purchase solar systems through the Bank of Punjab or National Bank. The scheme also offers flexible payment options, allowing consumers to make a 25% upfront payment with no interest, followed by interest-free installments spread over five years, which will be added to their electricity bills. Furthermore, the government will cover 75% of the interest for consumers utilizing more than 500 units.

The Punjab government is planning to implement the installation of these solar systems between September and October, signifying a significant stride towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. By diminishing dependency on traditional power sources, the Roshan Gharana initiative is anticipated to alleviate strain on the electricity grid and generate long-term savings for participating households, ensuring a secure and confident future. It is expected that these benefits will extend beyond individual households, fostering overall economic growth and environmental preservation within the province.

The Roshan Gharana scheme holds the promise of not only mitigating the financial burden on households but also contributing to a greener and more sustainable energy landscape in Punjab.
