Renowned Dramatist Khalilur Rehman Qamar Kidnapped and Assaulted

The renowned dramatist and screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar was subjected to a horrifying ordeal when he was kidnapped and assaulted by armed men. The harrowing incident unfolded on the night of July 15, 2024, leading to a subsequent filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sunder police station on July 21, 2024, upon Qamar’s return.

According to the details outlined in the FIR, Qamar received an invitation from a woman named Amna to discuss a potential drama project at her residence. However, upon his arrival, he fell victim to an ambush by armed men who forcibly abducted and robbed him. The perpetrators subjected Qamar to torment, relocating him to various places while threatening his life and demanding ransom from his family.

During this traumatic experience, the assailants seized Qamar’s mobile phone, watch, and cash. Additionally, they coerced him into transferring Rs 267,000 from his ATM card. After enduring hours of brutal treatment, the perpetrators callously abandoned Qamar blindfolded in a desolate area before making their escape.

Notably recognized for his work in popular television dramas like “Pyarey Afzal,” “Sadqay Tumhare,” and “Meray Paas Tum Ho,” as well as the film “Kaaf Kangana,” Khalilur Rehman Qamar expressed his anguish and called upon the authorities to ensure that the culprits face justice. He emphasized his ability to identify the assailants if presented with the opportunity.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation, focusing on the sections related to kidnapping and assault. The authorities are actively pursuing leads with the aim of apprehending the suspects and recovering the stolen items.

It is important to note that Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s lengthy career in the entertainment industry has not been immune to controversy. Known for his outspoken views and public disagreements, including notable disputes with actress Mahira Khan and activist Marvi Sirmed, Qamar remains a significant figure in Pakistani television and film. Despite facing criticism, he continues to command a devoted fan base that appreciates his contributions to the industry.
