Rupee Edges Up Slightly as Dollar Holds Firm Globally

[post-views]

The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US Dollar in the inter-bank market on Wednesday, appreciating by 0.01%. It closed at Rs278.87, improving by just 3 paisas from the previous day’s Rs278.90.

Globally, the dollar remained steady, supported by investor caution following uncertainty around ceasefire developments between the United States and Iran. The dollar index held near a one-week high, reflecting continued demand for the safe-haven currency.

Other major currencies showed limited movement. The euro, Australian dollar, and New Zealand dollar remained largely stable, while the dollar slightly weakened against the Japanese yen.

Meanwhile, rising geopolitical tensions and supply concerns pushed oil prices higher, with benchmarks gaining over 3%.

In the open market, the rupee also saw small gains against the dollar, euro, UAE dirham, and Saudi riyal, indicating modest overall stability in the local currency despite global uncertainties.
